The Next Generation (TNG) School hosted the Graduation Ceremony of the students of Year 11 and Year 13 – Class of 2023 - recently to celebrate their success and achievements in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar, Pakistan embassy, Nepal embassy, Turkiye embassy, Sri Lanka embassy, Bangladesh embassy, Indonesia embassy, Qatar University, and British Council.
Community leaders and civil society members were also in attendance.
Addressing the graduating class, Ailia Rizvi, principal, TNG, congratulated the parents, students, and teachers, and commended the students on their national and international achievements.
She motivated students to become discerning consumers of information who can utilise the knowledge and information gleaned as they navigate through their upcoming journeys. Concluding her remarks, Rizvi said: “We wish you happiness always, Class of 2023. We can't wait to see what you do on your next adventure. Be strong, remain resilient, and may you always find joy in learning.”
Guest of honour, Dr Maha al-Thani, assistant dean for student affairs at the College of Business and Economics, Qatar University, addressed the graduating class in her commencement speech. She encouraged the students on their achievements and urged them to embrace innovation and make full use of the available resources to attain their goals.
Dr al-Thani urged the students to believe in themselves, venture beyond their comfort zones and remain open to change.
In recognition of the accomplishments of the graduating class, several awards were announced.
Along with Graduation Certificates, students were also presented with awards based on their display of school values. The Valedictorian Awards for Commerce and Science stream were also announced and awarded to Mohammad Farhan Arshad, Maira Umair Qureshi, and Haadiya Fayyaz. Guest of Honours at the ceremony presented the awards to the students.
Announcing the awards, Rusna Raiz Ahammed, headmistress of TNG Al Wakra Secondary Campus, said: “I want you to look forward and realise the positive impact which your knowledge and skills can have on this world, and on the lives of the people around you. The challenges are now greater and more complex than ever, and the world needs YOU!”
Dr Waseem Kotoub, country director of British Council, recognised and commended the students for winning the National Award for the British Council’s flagship activity, the Your World Competition.
The competition was designed to enable students to draw on their cross-curricular knowledge, while developing leadership, digital literacy, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Globally, 3,500 students participated in the competition, submitting over 750 videos, and our students’ video submission following the theme: ‘Good Health and Well-Being”, won the National Award.
Winning students of the annual Your World Competition organised by British Council were awarded certificates and shield for their achievement by Dr Waseem Kotoub, country director, British Council.
Winning students at the Qatar Youth Science Forum, organised by the Hamad Bin Khalifa University were also applauded for their achievement. Out of 55 participating teams from high schools across Qatar, TNG students secured 4th position for their demonstration of scientific creativity and application of research methods to resolve the challenges faced by the world.
Winning students of the Qatar Youth Science Forum were awarded with certificates and shield for their achievement by Annalyn Ramirez Magat, project lead, Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
Addressing the graduating class, Riyaz Ahmed Bakali, director of TNG, reaffirmed the school’s mission and vision of creating globally responsible students while emphasising on Islamic values. He motivated students to uphold strong moral values and become innovative leaders. He encouraged students to answer the unanswered questions and bring innovative solutions to the problems faced by the world to make it a better place to live in.
As part of the closing remarks, prominent community member, Badar Sohail Khan, programme advisor at Ashghal, Public Works Authority, addressed the graduating class. Sharing his life story, Khan urged students to dream big, and then strive to be the best.
