The Turkish authorities announced that 29 illegal immigrants have been arrested while they were trying to slip illegally off the coast of the state of Aydin in the west of the country.
The Turkish Coast Guard Command said in a statement that it had received information indicating that illegal immigrants were on board a rubber boat off the coast of Didim.
The statement added that Coast Guard teams stopped the boat and arrested the 29 illegal immigrants on board. The immigrants were referred to the state's Immigration Administration Directorate to take the necessary measures.
Turkey's borders with Bulgaria, Greece and Turkish shores are witnessing an increase in the number of illegal immigrants taking the land or sea route in the hope of reaching a European country, and the Turkish police use various methods to prevent infiltration attempts across its borders.
