The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started maintenance works at the Corniche Square tunnel floor, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported. The granite floor is being replaced with new tiles which have better resistance towards the elements.
The Corniche Square which comprise a pedestrian tunnel and two cafes, is a popular spot of visitors and tourists. One of the attractions is a statue of the 2006 Doha Asian Games mascot "Orry".
Ashghal, represented by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, in cooperation with Qatar Tourism, had decorated Al Zaman Plaza, Corniche Tunnel and the Doha Corniche with festive lighting during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Ashghal has completed works on three main tunnels linking the Corniche East and West along with a project for jogging and cycling tracks. The project has three plazas which are Al Corniche Plaza, Al Dafna Plaza and Al Bidda Plaza.
Al Dafna Plaza contains two cafes, each with an internal space of 20sqm and external space of 48sqm. Al Corniche Plaza's dual cafes have an internal space of 46sqm and external space of 49sqm each. Al Bidda Plaza also has two cafes, each with an internal space of 20sqm and external area of 48sqm.
