The US embassy in Doha Tuesday issued a caution against an increasing number of fraudulent educational offers targeting Qatari residents seeking opportunities in the US.
“The US embassy in Doha is committed to safeguarding educational pursuits of Qatari residents. In recent months, there has been an increase in fraudulent offers claiming to promote educational opportunities, scholarships, and training programs in the United States," a statement said.
“The US embassy urges all Qatari residents to be cautious and not share personal or financial information in response to unsolicited calls, texts, social media messages, or emails,” it was explained.
The embassy also urged Qatar residents to rely on the US embassy to ensure they are on the right path for their US educational pursuits.
The embassy noted that it is providing reliable information on US university applications and educational opportunities free of charge. "The US Embassy offers the following: Accurate Information: We offer accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the US; Free Information: We will never ask you to pay or provide banking/personal information to access our educational resources; Direct Contact: Social media: @USEmbassyDoha; @EducationUSAQatar; e-mail: [email protected]
"If you believe you have been the victim of an internet scam: Do not send money. Unfortunately, any money that you might already have sent will probably not be recoverable; End all communication with the scammer immediately and contact Qatar’s Ministry of Interior via the Metrash 2 app and notify the U.S. Embassy by emailing [email protected]; If the scam originated through a particular website or on social media, notify the administrators of that platform," the statement added.
