In recognition of its ongoing efforts to maintain occupational health and safety, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), has won the Silver Award issued by the British Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA). The award, for the second time, was secured by Kahramaa’s Department of Health, Safety and Environment for 2022.
The award, according to an official Kahramaa statement, comes in honour of the corporation’s distinguished efforts in the field of health and safety and a safe work environment and in appreciation of its keenness to implement the highest standards of occupational health and safety for all the staff, partners and contractors.
This international competition is distinguished from others by the scope and criteria for selecting the winners, as it includes all applicable health and safety systems. “ROSPA is one of the largest associations specialised in providing educational services in the field of occupational health and safety in the world. It’s a non-profit organisation approved by the British government and has been working for more than 100 years. It has about 1,200 memberships for government institutions and non-governmental organisations from 58 countries around the world.
Abdel Moneim Ahmed al-Darwish, Director of the Health, Safety and Environment Department at Kahramaa, noted the achievement for the second year is due to Kahramaa staff’s work to ensure the best compliance with health and safety standards within Kahramaa and all its affiliated facilities. “This reflects our full commitment to the relevant laws in Qatar to preserve the health of workers in various sectors and protect them from the risks that they may face depending on the nature of their work,” he said.
It’s worth noting that Kahramaa won this award in its 2019 edition despite the difficulties that the health sector faced due to Covid-19 pandemic. The winning reflected Kahrmaa’s keenness to provide a healthy work environment for its staff despite the challenges posed by reality. health in the country and the world.
