The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord) to support Expo 2023 Doha to gain GSAS and EcoLeaf Certification. Gord, in a tweet, said its experts will provide the Expo 2023 Doha technical support while contributing to the formulation of the expo’s sustainability strategy and legacy plan. GSAS EcoLeaf, a new certification introduced by Gord as part of the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), is designed to significantly enhance the sustainability and environmental performance of mega events, such as expos and festivals.
The two parties, earlier, signed an agreement to support the sustainability delivery of Expo 2023 Doha. By incorporating sustainability best practices into every stage of planning, design, construction, operations and dismantling of such events, GSAS EcoLeaf aims to reduce the carbon footprint of purpose-built and temporary facilities while ensuring the wellbeing of users and protecting the environment.
The expo will showcase the idea of a greener future and leave a mark of sustainability in its construction works. All venues of the expo are built in line with the highest standards of sustainability while minimising the carbon footprint. This is while presenting the idea of a greener future for the Middle East and North Africa region in all areas of life. The activities and events at Expo 2023 Doha will contribute to achieving the vision of a green desert and a better environment. The pavilions will feature the latest technologies in horticulture, agriculture and sustainability while inviting the visitors to learn more through interactive displays and exhibitions.
Expo 2023 Doha’s sustainability sub-theme will bring together global expert voices and promote innovative sustainable solutions through a series of conferences in partnership with the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH). The discussions will address the most pressing issues such as how to build green cities and enable them to fit today’s urban needs and be enjoyable to all.
