The Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) continues to provide its educational programmes for various communities in Qatar while introducing Islam and Islamic culture. Under the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), the centre holds educational events and religious lectures that aim to present an integrated and balanced picture of Islam, its culture and civilisation.
During the past week, according to an official statement from Awqaf, the centre organised the Filipino community basketball tournament and the Nepali and Indian community volleyball tournament. This will continue throughout August. Fanar hosted 48 people from the three communities to participate in events and activities characterised by a high sportsmanship and fraternal spirit. This was followed by educational lectures on Islamic culture while explaining the Qatari traditions that should be respected. The participants of the programme expressed their appreciation for the centre's initiative towards the different communities.
Within the framework of the centre’s periodic initiatives, the Department of Introduction to Islam held a programme to visit the Grand Mosque. The event was attended by 27 people from several nationalities speaking English, Spanish and Japanese. During the visit, they learned about the most prominent religious rituals held in mosques and various parts of mosques while learning how to perform ablution and its importance, an overview of prayer in general and an indication of the impact of the mosque and its importance in the life of the Muslim community.
The women’s section also held several different programmes. The section celebrated the graduation of 60 new Muslims from the foundational level from the courses of teaching reverts. The course discussed the important branches of belief, their evidence, how to understand them, and their impact on the life of a Muslim.
In addition, other educational activities continued. These included teaching female reverts.
