The death toll from floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Duxuri has risen to 25 in Philippines, with at least 20 others missing.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC ) said Monday that Typhoon Duxuri left the country after causing 20 deaths in northern Philippines, three in an area near Manila metropolitan area, and two in the center of the country, while another 20 people are still missing in the northern Philippines.
On Sunday, the council announced the death of 16 people as a result of the typhoon.
Many parts of the country remain submerged as heavy rains continue even after the typhoon made its way away from the Philippines last week.
Cyclone Duxuri has affected nearly 2.4 million people in the Southeast Asian country, where more than 50,000 displaced people are still staying in temporary shelters. The typhoon also damaged homes, crops, roads and bridges.
Duxuri is the fifth typhoon to hit the Philippines this year, and scientists have warned that extreme weather events such as powerful storms are being exacerbated by climate change.
