Qatar Chamber held a meeting with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) yesterday to discuss ways to enhance co-operation relations and areas of co-operation between the Qatari private sector and its Brazilian counterpart.
The meeting was attended by deputy general manager Ali Bu Sharbak al-Mansouri and ABCC secretary-general and CEO Tamer Mansour, along with ABCC counsellor of GCC, Iraq, and Yemen Shaheen Ali Shaheen and Qatar Chamber’s director Membership Affairs Department, Al Anoud al-Mohannadi.
Al-Mansouri stressed the strong relations between Qatar and Brazil at all levels, especially the economic and commercial aspects, noting that there are a lot of high-quality Brazilian products in the Qatari market.
He reviewed the role of Qatar Chamber in supporting and representing the Qatari private sector and how it promotes the national economy and its investment climate, as well as its role in organising seminars, conferences, and exhibitions.
For his part, Mansour praised the relations between Qatar and Brazil, particularly in trade and economy. He stressed that Qatar is “a distinguished and safe country” and an attractive destination for investment.
He also said among the GCC states, Qatar is the third trade partner of Brazil. He said the two countries’ trade volume had seen considerable development within the past few years, especially in food and agricultural products, poultry, and meat.
Mansour reviewed ABCC’s ‘Easy Trade’ project, which aims to implement digital customs clearance for trade between Brazil and the Arab countries. The project aims to facilitate trade and facilitate the export of goods and commodities, he said.
The project is based on creating a documentary link to all certificates issued by Brazil, such as health certificates, origin certificates, and invoices, verifying them, and sending them to the customs of other countries, including Qatar.
Mansour also mentioned the possibility to enhance co-operation between both chambers by establishing a model for re-export to be implemented with other countries and the possibility to make a link between the Information Technology sections on both sides to streamline the re-export process between both countries.
He also invited the chamber’s board members and companies to participate in events being held in Brazil, such as the Halal Forum, which will be held in October. The meeting touched on the possibility of forming the Qatari-Brazilian Business Forum to bring together businessmen from both countries and review opportunities for co-operation and partnership in trade and investment.
During the meeting, al-Mohannadi said, “We are planning to make a link between the chamber and the Customs Authority to enhance co-operation with other customs authorities in the exporting countries.”
