The Ministry of Culture launched Tuesday a "computer lab" at the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind, where the center's employees will be trained to use devices for the blind.
This laboratory comes within the framework of the Ministry of Culture's keenness to enrich the knowledge of the blind, and to train them to use computers dedicated for them. After the invention of the Braille, no invention has enabled the blind and visually impaired to communicate as effectively as the assistive technologies that make computers and the Internet available. Digital technology has also provided blind people with ever-increasing opportunities for personal and professional growth.
To make this highly visual environment accessible to those who are unable to see a computer screen, the Ministry of Culture launches this lab to enable users to read all the content that appears on the screen, be it emails, spreadsheet columns, application toolbars, or graphic captions, and teach them how to navigate between keyboard and desktop, open and use programmes, and browse the web.
