The Court of Appeal has sentenced an expatriate man to one year in jail for stealing four external units of split air conditioners (ACs) while acquitting a second defendant.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the case involved one of the accused asking the other to help him move four split AC units from a residential villa using a pickup vehicle.
The four outer AC units were subsequently sold at a market.
The owner of the villa reported the incident when he returned home.
Upon investigation and reviewing the footage of the nearby surveillance cameras, police arrested the culprits.
The Criminal Court sentenced both men to one year in jail and subsequent deportation.
However, the Court of Appeal eventually acquitted one of them for lack of evidence and upheld the sentence for the other.
