The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Mosques Department, has opened the Afra Majali Al-Sahli Mosque at Rawdat Ekdeem.
According to an official statement from Awqaf, the new mosque was endowed by Faisal bin Ali Abdullah al-Kaabi and the opening comes within the framework of the ministry’s plan to expand the number of mosques and develop them in all regions of the country while keeping pace with urban growth and population increase, in line with the country’s National Vision 2030.
The new mosque (No. MS 1367) includes a main prayer hall that can accommodate 300 worshippers in addition to a women’s hall that can accommodate 65 worshippers.
The Department of Engineering Affairs at the ministry is concerned with providing the needs of the regions in the country for mosques and prayer grounds while providing the regions with temporary mosques and supervising their preservation, preparing the annual plan for the maintenance of mosques and imams’ residences. These are in co-ordination with the competent authorities.
Also, the department supervises the preparation and implementation of construction, maintenance works for mosques while monitoring the construction projects of mosques and imams’ residences owned by the endowment in terms of designs, technical specifications, engineering and implementation and preparing a database on mosques, prayer grounds and their workers.
In mosque designs, the department takes into account the different areas of lands on which mosques will be built along with the requirements for green buildings and sustainable buildings. Also, the department focuses on the conditions for sustainability in the use of electricity and water, and preserving the aesthetics of heritage in designs that reflect the authenticity of Qatari and Islamic heritage in accordance with the highest standards.
The ministry's plans to build mosques also take into account the population density map along with engineering, architectural specifications and the heritage aspect within the framework of caring for the houses of God, to perform worship and to serve the worshippers.
Awqaf’s website provides the facility to search for mosque locations geographically according to the global navigation system through accurate and specific maps that facilitate access to mosque locations in all cities across the country.
