The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement, has wrapped up its three-day awareness exhibition at Mall of Qatar to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.

Several MoI departments participated in the exhibition, alongside the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, General Authority of Customs, Behavioral Healthcare Centre, as well as concerned and supporting entities.

In his remarks at the conclusion of the exhibition's events, Director of Search and Follow-up Department at the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement Lieutenant Colonel Tariq Ali al-Farahid al-Maliki said the exhibition witnessed a huge turnout and interaction from citizens and residents and included images of the efforts undertaken by concerned and supporting entities in combating narcotic drugs, as well as distribution of awareness brochures which demonstrated the peril of narcotic drugs and prevention methods, in addition to a special studio that was dedicated to children and a medical clinic.

Al-Maliki added that the celebration of International Day Against Drug Abuse represents a vital pause to re-evaluate the exerted efforts, unify and support them, as well as raise societal awareness about narcotic drugs and their harmful effects.

He noted that drug abuse is one of the dangerous psychological and asocial problems that beset communities at all regional and international levels, including Arab and Islamic communities, outlining that the dangers of this scourge lie in its multi-dimensional and perilous effects that hamper communities' growth and prosperity, emphasising that MoI and the supporting entities are exerting unwavering efforts to combat and prevent narcotics where they proved their active role in foiling numerous attempts of trafficking and smuggling narcotic drugs.

In addition, the Director of Search and Follow-up Department stressed Qatar's keenness to join the international community in its efforts to counter the narcotics problem and reduce their prevalence through applying the principles and provisions of all drug control conventions, in addition to participating in the relevant forums at the Gulf, Arab, regional and international levels.
