The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has received the award for the best special achievement in geographic information systems (GIS) at the 2023 ESRI conference. MoECC, according to an official press statement, won the award after Al Reem Reserve site was elected as the best site while outperforming more than 100,000 entries across the world.
The award and certificates were received by the work team at the ESRI 2023 Conference, which was in the US city San Diego. The conference was attended by a MoECC delegation headed by Dr Ibrahim Abdul Latif al-Maslamani, assistant undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs, Mubarak Khalifa al-Dosari, Nawaf Jabr al-Nuaimi and Dr Al-Syed al-Bukhari.
The Al Reem Biosphere Reserve site was selected for the Best Special Achievement Award in Geographic Information System (GIS) at the conference and this award is given to user sites around the world in recognition of outstanding work using GIS technology.
“Al Reem Biosphere site WAS distinguished by the best location of more than 100,000 institutions across the world,as it achieved the best scientific use of GIS in redefining areas and formulating a plan to develop a typical application of GIS,” the statement said.
