Qatar has reiterated its strong condemnation of the recent Israeli aggression on the Jenin camp, the displacement of Palestinian families, and the killing of children, considering that a new episode in a series of attacks, war crimes, and continuous violations against the Palestinian people, claiming the lives of thousands of innocent, defenceless civilians in flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions and the Geneva Conventions.
This came in a statement delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva, Dr Hind Abdulrahman al-Muftah, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 within the framework of the 53rd Regular Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
HE al-Muftah said that the continuation of the occupation, racist, and settlement aggressions and policies would lead to the deterioration of conditions, increase the risk of spreading violence, and threaten the chances of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
She called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities in condemning the Israeli attacks and violations at first. She added that the international community has to work to end the occupation, the policies of collective punishment, and the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and to stop arbitrary detention, administrative detention, torture, and ill-treatment against Palestinian detainees and prisoners, especially children, and release them and compensate the victims.
Furthermore, the international community has to take the necessary measures to protect the Palestinian people and ensure that all those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against them are held accountable.
HE al-Muftah reiterated Qatar's firm and clear stance to stand by the Palestinian people until they regain all their legitimate rights, including their inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent and fully sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967.
