The establishment of a nation’s independence represents an entire process of intelligent actions by the peoples who have been established in their own ancestral territories, with their own customs and traditions.
However, independence processes — without relying on other countries — require genuine patriotism and leadership to achieve, with a legitimate will, the most cherished values of societies around the world, especially freedom and self-determination of their future, which entails being responsible for their own destiny.
The independence of nations has occurred throughout history, and we understandably remember recent times or the rebellions that took place in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, in which the aspiration to become sovereign states governed by their own citizens born in those territories is very clearly evident.
In many cases, the independence of countries has also occurred as a result of revolutions or the diplomatically determined acceptance by the parties for the good of bilateral, regional, and international peace.
We appreciate the country where we carry out our duties now, having learned about its history, full of challenges but with an indelible desire to be sovereign in its territory, understanding sovereignty as the supreme authority in which political power resides, allowing a nation to make its own decisions.
This sovereignty allows a state to create its own laws and manage its natural resources without interference from other states.
Nevertheless, when an autonomous internal policy is established, it extends to the external realm, becoming foreign policy, which allows a state or international organisation to integrate into a global community, deploying all its efforts in these spaces to comply with principles of equality, respect for human rights, protection of the environment, adherence to principles of international law, and what is stipulated in the resolutions issued by the United Nations which are born out of incomprehensible armed conflicts.
It is there that leading countries emerge, which, through their existence as examples, clearly contribute to promoting values for the well-being of a global society.
I have observed this in Qatar and its leaders, who have positioned the Qatari nation as a relevant international actor in our times, when we need mediators to promote peace, co-operation, humanitarian actions, and the unity of all peoples.
We were born with the same rights, and we must continue the path that inspired many who came before us to achieve true independence in our countries.
On July 28, 1821, Peru achieved its independence, and for the past 202 years of republican life, we have strived to ensure that our population has equal opportunities in education, health, and personal and familial development.
Everyone advances in different measures but with common objectives that have not appeared after millennia of our existence on the planet: desires and dreams whose undeniable purpose is to conquer common rights of development for the benefit of all those who have come to populate and settle in various territories, under a principle of social justice, as the great civilisations, including the Inca Civilisation, did.
We wish to live in peace, harmony, and brotherhood because everything must be resolved for the common well-being of the world.
