The Council of the Arab League has condemned the large-scale of Israeli aggression and crimes perpetrated against the Palestinian people, including the aggression on Jenin city and camp and the remaining cities, villages, and camps.
It called for urgent action through the open-ended Arab ministerial committee to undertake the mission of acting globally to provide international protection to the Palestinian people.
This came in the statement of the closing extraordinary session of the Arab League in Cairo to discuss ways to counter the persistent and escalating Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people.
The statement underscored the launch of an urgent and extensive Arab action through councils of Arab ambassadors, Arab League’s missions and opening communication channels with the permanent members of UN Security Council, along with international decision-making centres to express the Arab orientation in taking further action towards ending the Israeli occupation and all its policies, practices, and aggressive measures against the Palestinian people.
The League held the Israeli entity responsible for the consequences of its entire aggression, pointing out that once the UN Security Council failed to undertake its role and uphold its responsibility to safeguard international peace and security, Arab League would move further to the UN General Assembly to convene a resumed session of the tenth Emergency Special Session under the theme of: “Uniting for peace” to issue the essential resolutions towards stopping the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people, enforcing UN’s pertinent resolutions with respect to the international protection for the Palestinian people and granting the State of Palestine full membership in the UN organisation.
In addition, the council called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to uphold its responsibility under Rome Statute concerning the accomplishment of criminal investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Israeli entity against the defenseless Palestinian people, including settlement crimes, annexation, aggression on cities, villages and camps and killing civilians, journalists and medical aid crews, as well as forced eviction, in addition to mulling all options through which ICC can practice its jurisdictions on the occupied territory of the State of Palestine, accomplishing the investigation and providing all human and material potential and essential priority to this mission.
The statement urged the international community, states and institutions to engage in the protection of Palestinian civilians and establish a practical and effective work mechanism to implement the UN General Assembly Resolution 10/20ES/RES/A of 2018, holding Israel responsible for all the consequences of its aggression.
The Council called on the international community to ramp up pressure on Israel to allow the ongoing fact-finding committee established by the Human Rights Council on May 21, 2021 to enter the territory of the occupied State of Palestine to exercise its mandate in fact-finding about Israeli crimes and violations committed in the Palestinian territory, urging the committee to follow up on all Israeli violations and crimes within its mandate and submit its reports and recommendations in this regard.
