The emergency departments across Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received 2,045 cases of sick adults and children on the third day of Eid al-Adha holidays, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported. There were 1,577 cases on the first day and 1,940 on the second day.
Dr Aftab Mohamed, acting head of emergency departments at HMC, said that Hamad General Hospital (HGH) received 499 cases, with 97 cases of stomach disturbances, 33 cases of injuries, and 369 cases due to other complaints such as coughing, and heart diseases.
The medical teams work round-the-clock in three shifts at the emergency departments at HGH, Al Wakra Hospital, Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital and Aisha bint Hamad al-Attiyah Hospital, he added.
Dr Mohamed al-Amiri, head of the paediatrics at HMC, said the paediatric emergency department received 1,336 sick children on the second day of Eid holidays. These included 597 at Al Sadd Paediatric Emergency, 279 at Al Rayyan Health Centre, 125 at Airport Health Centre, 69 at Al Daayen, 191 at Al Wakra, and 75 cases at Al Khor Health Centre's paediatric emergency department. Most such cases were minor due to high temperature and some other inflammations, he explained.
Ali Darwish, assistant executive director of Ambulance Services at HMC, said that the service received 210 calls for help on the second day of the holidays with 153 for sick persons and 57 due to different accidents.
