A group of medical and health students from Qatar University (QU) recently participated in the WHO 2023 Global Model, a ten-day virtual conference.
The event provided an immersive learning experience for students in the public health, biomedical sciences, and pharmacy fields.
The WHO 2023 Global Model aimed to provide QU Health Sector students with a deep understanding of global health issues, decision-making processes, and the importance of multilateral co-operation. Through engaging in dialogue, negotiations, and simulations of the World Health Assembly, the students gained valuable insights into global challenges and explored effective strategies for addressing them.
A total of 198 high school and university students from over 40 countries participated in the conference. In addition, 29 student volunteers from over 18 countries supported the conference by representing the WHO secretariat. From QU, 11 public health students, one biomedical sciences student, and 11 pharmacy students participated. Yusra El-Shaikh, a public health student, won the position paper award, and Diala al-haj Moustafa, a pharmacy student, won the diplomacy award.
