Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation held a "Haya Baya" event at Katara beach on Sundayas part of efforts to revive popular heritage, which saw the participation of children wearing traditional Qatari dress.
Girls sang popular songs related to this heritage before throwing their plants into the sea.
The “Haya Baya” event is a popular tradition in a number of GCC states, where children converge as the month of Dhul-Hijjah approaches, with each child bringing the materials they like, along with an empty can in which they plant some grains of barley, wheat or lentils, and hang the can in a safe location to be exposed to the air and sunlight.
The children continue to water and preserve the plant as part of this tradition.
