HE the Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr Mohamed bin Saif al-Kuwari, has said that NHRC carried out its oversight role in all of the 7th Central Municipal Council's (CMC) elections' polling stations.
In a statement Saturday, al-Kuwari said that the elections were in line with national and international standards in terms of transparency, credibility, and voter ease of access to constituencies' polling stations, according to the NHRC elections monitoring team's initial report. He added that the final report will be submitted to the presidency of the Council of Ministers, which will include a comprehensive assessment of all stages of the electoral process, together with future recommendations.
Al-Kuwari stated that the elections monitoring team consisted of NHRC members, a number of officials, experts and department directors, as well as NHRC employees, numbering 22 observers monitoring 29 constituencies. The candidates in the twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth constituencies were elected unopposed.
He also stressed that the Municipal Council Elections' committee upheld human rights and ensured free and fair elections.
HE NHRC Deputy Chairman said that the objective of monitoring elections is to ensure an independent, impartial and objective evaluation of the electoral process, encouraging election results' acceptance, giving credibility to the electoral process, and upholding human rights during elections.
