HE the Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaei inaugurated the 'Studio 18' of the ministry's Urban Planning Affairs Sector, in the presence of a number of assistant undersecretaries, general directors of municipalities and department directors, and a number of officials and representatives of the Ministry of Culture; professional, research and academic institutions and pioneers of planning work in Qatar.
HE the Minister stressed that Studio 18 is a centre for creativity and inspiration, adding that it documents important stages of the development process in Qatar, especially urban development and urban planning during the past five decades. He pointed out that the importance of this stage calls for attention to the documentation of urban plans and the efforts that have taken place throughout the past period, explaining that Studio 18 will be a source of inspiration for specialists by comparing the legacy that has been made during these decades and building on reality and the future.
This studio was established on the 18th floor of the Urban Planning Sector headquarters, to serve as a meeting place for all associates of the Urban Planning Department, architectural, urban and planning institutions and agencies, to motivate them to think creatively and to create a suitable environment for urban planners and designers, to promote creative thinking and formulate planning visions for the future of Qatari municipalities and cities.
The studio is home to the only planning and urban library in Qatar, which keeps a collection of specialised books and rare technical reports on the planning and urban development in the country, as well as the latest references published in the region and the world. It also includes a section for design equipped with all modern technologies, virtual reality lab equipment and 3D laser printers. It also includes spaces for brainstorming, exchanging ideas and making visual and graphic presentations.
