Sudanese ambassador in Doha Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Mohamed Hassan Siwar al-Dahab appreciated Qatar's permanent support to Sudan and its people in all circumstances and crises throughout history, including the current crisis facing the country.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador said: "We must express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for the steadfast support of His Highness the Amir, the government and the people of the brotherly State of Qatar. They have been standing by Sudan in all the crises and challenges throughout history, including the current crisis that began on the morning of April 15, 2023."
He praised the significant humanitarian assistance provided by Qatar to support those affected by this crisis in the areas of food and medicine. He also commended the swift response to the appeal made by the Sudanese government to the international community in this regard. He said this has contributed to alleviating suffering and addressing the shortages of those needs, especially in light of the crisis which has caused a deterioration in basic services in the capital city of Khartoum and other cities that have been affected by the influx of displaced citizens.
Qatar co-chaired a high-level conference in Geneva yesterday, along with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany, the UN represented by the Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the European Union and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The purpose of the conference is to announce commitments to support the humanitarian response in Sudan and the region.
On Qatar's participation in the high-level conference in Geneva, the ambassador stated that it confirms the State's firm stance towards the Sudanese people.
The Sudanese ambassador also expressed his sincere appreciation to Qatar for its response in evacuating a large number of Sudanese nationals who are Qatar ID holders as well as their families from Sudan, through a Qatari relief aircraft.
