The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, have organised an event on "The role of technology and digital innovation in supporting the reproductivity and reaching of persons with disabilities", in sidelines of the 16th session of the Conference of the States Parties (COSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which is currently being held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
During her opening speech to the event, HE the Minister of Social Development and Family, Chairperson of the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad affirmed that the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, has made great efforts in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and the civil society organisations sector, in an effort to provide health and reproductive care for people with disabilities and to educate them about a healthy pregnancy.
She also indicated that these efforts also included facilitating access to information based on reliable medical sources about reproductive health through communication methods that suit their types of disabilities. This is done by holding community awareness activities to urge the importance of premarital medical examinations, which protect them and provide them with a healthy life.
HE Al Misnad noted that multimedia (audio-visual) hotlines have been established to provide psychological support and advice to mothers with disabilities, and to support them during pregnancy and postpartum, in addition to home visits by social and medical care professionals.
