DPS Monarch International School bagged the first place at the Chaliyar Doha Eco Fest, held as part of the World Environment Day celebration.
A still model by the team comprising Aarti Subhash, Anaswara Anil and Ananya K Jinesh topped the contest that saw 14 teams and 58 contestants from various schools. The fest was under the theme #BeatPlasticPollution.
Gargee Kanade, Nikhil D'Cruz and Ziya Rasik from DPS Modern Indian School secured the second position, while M Krishnendhu Venugopal, Nashwa Jabin and Souparnika of MES Indian School claimed the third spot. The consolation prizes went to Devanandha Dinesh, Arlene Maria Arun, Eva Maria Castelino, and Niya Zacharias from Bhavan's Public School and Mohamed Abdul Mukeet and Arif Mohamed from MES Indian School. In the open-to-the-public green salad-making competition, Reema Razaq won the first place.
Chaliyar Doha chief patron Shaukathali T A J inaugurated the fest. President Zameel Abdul Wahid Chaliyam presided and general secretary C T Sidhique Cheruvadi welcomed and conveyed the Environment Day message. Chief advisor V C Mashood Thiruthiyad, sports committee chairman Siddique Vazhakad, Pharma Care managing director Naufal Kattayat, and social worker Abdu Raoof Kondotty were present.
The judges for the exhibition were Dr Pratibha (researcher at Hamad Medical Corporation and a PhD holder in Environmental Microbiology), Dr Vinod Nair (winner of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar-Human Excellence Award) and Jibeesh Veeriambath (teacher, Brilliant Group of Institutions).
The green salad-making competition was judged by Naseeha Majeed (co-ordinator, Malabar Adukkala) and Ratheesh Nair (corporate manager, Olive Group & Kesar Sweets).
The Chaliyar Doha Eco Fest was co-ordinated by Ratheesh Kakov and Sabik Edavanna. The programme was led by Raghunath, Layis Kuniyil , Shafeeque Thapi, Abdul Aziz, Abi Chungathara, Jaisal Vazhakad, Fairose Pothukallu, Muneera Basheer, Shahana Illyas, Shaleena Rajesh, Muhsina Zameel, Hanifa Chaliyaam, P C Abdurrahiman Mampad, Raoof Beypore, Anil Mathur Kadalundi, Unnimoin Kizhuparamp, Azeez Purayil and Razaq Ramanatukara.
