His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said Thursday's visit to Baghdad affirms the depth of the strong and historical fraternal relations between Qatar and Iraq, and reflects the sincere desire of the two countries to strengthen and consolidate them in various fields, stressing endeavours to develop the relations in the fields of energy, investment, trade and development.
This came in His Highness's joint press statement with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani at the Prime Minister's Office.

Talks discussed ways
to develop co-operation

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani affirmed that his talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani Thursday discussed ways to develop co-operation between the two countries, in addition to regional and international issues of common interest.
In a tweet, His Highness also affirmed Qatar's support for Iraq to achieve unity and stability and restore its important regional and global role, extending thanks for the hospitality and honour he was accorded.

His Highness noted that the two sides agreed on the importance of continuous growth of trade exchange between Qatar and Iraq, noting that the two countries signed a joint Declaration of Intent, a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding, in addition to a number of agreements with the Qatari private sector on energy, electricity and the development of hotels, modern residential buildings and hospital management in Iraq.
His Highness the Amir added that the talks also included regional initiatives to strengthen economic relations among the countries of the region, including support for developing a project that links the Gulf electrical interconnection system to the southern Iraq network in a bid to provide Iraqi with electricity needs. He also indicated that Qatar participates in the meetings concerned with Iraq's Development Road initiative.
His Highness said the talks also touched on the most important regional developments, stressing the importance of dialogue and peaceful means to settle all disputes. He hailed the role of Iraq and its security in the region, stressing Qatar's continued support for Iraq's unity and stability, and for the Iraqi people to realise their aspirations for security and development.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim also extended congratulations to the prime minister and the Iraqi people on the successful hosting of the Gulf Cup, adding that Iraqis are welcome in Qatar for the upcoming Asian Cup.

For his part, the Iraqi prime minister welcomed His Highness the Amir and the accompanying delegation, highlighting the importance of His Highness's visit to Baghdad, which reflects the depth of the growing relations between the two countries. He noted that Iraq, with its natural and human capacities and geographical location, and Qatar, with its capabilities and the economic development it has achieved, can together achieve integration at various levels, which will benefit the two peoples.
He added that the talks with His Highness the Amir included several areas, pointing to the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in several fields, including the economic and political fields, as well as Arab, regional and international issues. He reiterated his thanks to His Highness the Amir and his accompanying delegation for the visit.
