The State of Qatar chaired the 38th meeting of the Executive Office of Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, currently held at the Arab League headquarter in Cairo.
The meeting discussed several critical issues related to the Arab energy sector, in addition to a host of topics related to strengthening the Arab-Arab cooperation and coordination, in order to upgrade the Arab infrastructure supporting this sector and the services it provides.
HE the President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari represented the State of Qatar in the meeting, which studied the project to establish the Arab Common Market for Electricity, and the related coordination and procedure, in addition to the rules for operating electricity networks in the concerned countries.
Relatedly, the meeting focused on efforts to prepare for the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, slated for November in Mauritania.
Several proposals and development solutions will be studied in the context of the summit, foremost of which is the proposal of a solar power plants project for the benefit Palestinian camps, to improve the reality of electric energy for the beneficiaries, provide sustainable sources and facilitate access to it.
The meeting also discussed the strategic relations that link the countries of the Arab region and the bodies that represent them, with regional and international blocs concerned with the issues of energy, its production and distribution.
Chair of the meeting, HE Al Kuwari, underlined the need to continue dialogue between the member states of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity and its Executive Office, to study prospects for cooperation with international partners in order to achieve common interests and support the development process in the Arab region.
The State of Qatar assumed the duties of chairing meeting of the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity for two consecutive years, after being elected by the members of the Council, last year, during the 7th General Conference of the Arab Electricity Union, which was held in Doha.
