The College of Engineering (CENG) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Qatar University (QU) have announced the establishment of a joint laboratory dedicated to research and development (R&D) in the field of renewable energy sources.
This collaboration signifies a major milestone in promoting interdisciplinary co-operation and advancing sustainable energy solutions in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The joint laboratory, named the Renewable Energy Lab, will be located on the premises of the university. It will serve as a hub for conducting cutting-edge research, development and educational activities focused on renewable energy sources, including solar energy, wind energy, biomass, batteries, CO2 conversion and energy storage.
CENG dean Dr Khaled Kamal Naji said, "This partnership between the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences underscores our commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability. By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to drive impactful research, train the next generation of energy leaders, and contribute to the advancement of renewable energy solutions."
"The collaboration between CENG and CAS will encompass various areas, including joint research projects, publication endeavours, sharing of laboratory equipment and software, organisation of workshops and conferences, student internships and exchange programmes, grant proposal development, fundraising activities and public outreach initiatives," he added.
CAS dean Prof Ahmed El Zatahry said, "This collaboration represents an excellent opportunity to leverage the diverse strengths of our colleges. Together, we will tackle the complex challenges in renewable energy research, working towards a greener and more sustainable future. We are proud to be part of this important initiative."
He added, "The establishment of the Renewable Energy Lab serves as a testament to both colleges' dedication to research excellence and its commitment to addressing global energy challenges.
