The global consumer credit market reached a value of US $10.45 billion in 2021, and that figure is expected to reach US$13.96 billion by 2027. Consumer credit refers to short and intermediate-term personal loans used to purchase goods and services for personal consumption.
Many changes in financial technologies are transforming the consumer credit landscape, and entrepreneur Andrea Agostinone has a hand in that. However, his career took several turns before he landed in the world of finance.
Born in Italy, Agostinone spent the first 15 years of his career as an international tax lawyer. He worked in mergers and acquisitions, but in 2007, he was ready for a change. Agostinone sold his business and began working in real estate in Estonia. He bought up several commercial buildings and co-founded Colonna, a company that specializes in buying buildings and renting them out. It is now one of the largest real estate companies in the Baltic region.
In 2013, Agostinone pivoted once again and launched Inbank with his business partners. Inbank is the future of financial technology in Europe, and it saw quick success when it captured 30 percent of the local consumer credit market share. Before “fintech” was a hot buzzword, Inbank was using new technology to transform financial services. The company uses embedded finance to disrupt the standard model of banking.
“People are fed up with banks, and they are totally right,” said Agostinone. “With all the compliance, all the systems, holding your money, but once they have it, they make it look like it is not yours anymore.” Inbank is currently operating in Estonia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and a few other countries, with plans to expand into Italy in 2023.
Agostinone recently moved once again, this time to Dubai. He is focused on living a meaningful life and is pursuing one of his passions, piloting planes. He flies private planes around the world while still running his successful businesses. To keep up with all of his exciting adventures, you can find his Instagram here.
