Qatar National Library (QNL) is presenting a wide range of activities and experiences tailored for book lovers at the Doha International Book Fair 2023. An interactive booth has been designed to entertain, educate and connect visitors with the library’s extensive services, collections and vast online resources, while showcasing the cultural treasures in the Heritage Library.
Commenting on this year’s participation, Abeer Saad al-Kuwari, director of Research and Learning Services at QNL, said: “We view this esteemed event as an opportunity to foster connections between visitors and the library’s outstanding resources, both physically available on our bookshelves and conveniently accessible online, through our website and mobile app. Our aim is to engage individuals who are passionate about books, regardless of their interests or backgrounds, as well as researchers and publishers who share our enthusiasm for knowledge.
“For young visitors, our activities will create excitement around reading at an early age. We encourage everyone to visit and interact with us at the library’s booth to explore their love of books, discovery and learning.”
One of the featured activities this year is ‘Find Your Next Read’ where visitors can explore curated book recommendations. From works by Qatari authors to captivating reads for children and thought-provoking literature for adults, the library’s expert suggestions cater to a wide range of interests. Another interactive activity is the ‘Knowledge Challenge’ quiz, which will not only expand participants’ knowledge but also provide insights into the library’s rich resources and services. At the end of the book fair, a lucky winner will be selected from the high scorers to win a prize and celebrate their love for knowledge and learning.
In addition, there will be the ‘If you Like this Book’ activity, which aims to help visitors navigate through our vast collection of books to find titles that are compatible with their reading preferences. The books can then be accessed online through the QNL mobile application. Visitors can also explore the library’s ‘Book Match’ service to discover their next read.
For children, QNL has designed an engaging wall maze that entertains young visitors while helping them discover the proper approach to borrowing and reading. Then, visitors can step into the fascinating world of the Heritage Library collection and capture cherished memories of the book fair through a photo booth experience. Specially curated backgrounds have been used from the library’s immense archival treasures, which include some of the region’s most valuable historical and cultural archival documents.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about registering for free library membership and how to seamlessly access QNL’s extensive range of online resources, including ebooks, databases, journals and audiobooks for every age and interest, through the QNL mobile app. The app is available in English and Arabic and is free to download on iOS devices from the App Store and for Android from Google Play.
Qatar National Library is inviting all book lovers and avid readers to visit its booth in Hall 4 of the Doha International Book Fair 2023, taking place until June 21 June at DECC.
