The ‘Ballast Water Management Convention’ regional workshop by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has concluded. The event was in conjunction with the Riyadh MoU for maritime specialists from Qatar and some GCC countries.
“The workshop adds to the efforts that aim at the nonproliferation of harmful substances and marine creatures that can be transported in ballast water. It discussed plans, measures and standards relating to ballast water management and featured hands-on training at Hamad Port,” a MoT statement said.
MoT pays considerable attention to continuously updating maritime specialists and personnel in Qatar with all international conventions concerned with marine environment protection, as well as maritime safety and security. The Ballast Water Management Convention is one of the key pacts in this regard. It came into effect in 2017 and was joined by Qatar in 2018.
At the end of the workshop, MoT’s Assistant Undersecretary, Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais al-Marri, handed over the attendance certificates to the attendees.
