The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) organised an educational trip for the Biology Association, as part of the Qatar University Alumni Association, to Hamad International Port on the occasion of World Oceans Day.
The trip aimed at promoting marine environmental awareness, conservation methods and exploring biodiversity in Qatar.
During the educational trip, Captain Abdulrahman al-Marzouqi, from Mwani Qatar, gave a lecture about Hamad Port's contribution to environmental conservation, and highlighted the sustainable practices, such as the construction of green buildings that adhere to environmental preservation standards.
The MoECC conducted an introductory workshop during the trip, which included an overview of World Oceans Day and the ministry's efforts in marine environmental conservation. The attendants were briefed on the legislation enacted to protect marine organisms and their habitats. They were also acquainted with the efforts of the ministry's affiliated departments in implementing the legislation, aiming to enhance biodiversity in the regional waters.
The visit to Hamad Port also included an introduction to marine pollution types and their harmful effects on aquatic life, particularly the significant impact of plastic on the marine environment. The organisers from the MoECC shed light on plastic codes and symbols, as well as their implications, to raise awareness about the proper usage of plastic and the health implications associated with each type.
The educational trip further included the screening of 4D documentaries at the port's cinema, showcasing the different stages of Hamad International Port. A guided tour was conducted at the port's museum, along with a visit to the aquarium tanks.
