Director-General of the Arab Labour Organization (ALO) Fayez Ali al-Mutairi underscored that the election of Qatar, represented by HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, to chair the 111th session of the International Labor Conference (ILC), reflects the confidence of the international community in Qatar and its important achievements and reforms in the labour sector.
Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the ILC in Geneva, Switzerland, al-Mutairi appreciated Qatar's support for the organization, its multiple contributions and participation in this framework, as well as its active membership in the ALO Board of Directors. He said that the ALO, in co-operation with the State of Qatar, held several courses on the application of occupational health and safety standards and inspection at work, in addition to a series of workshops and lectures on labour education, stressing the organization's readiness to provide everything necessary in this field.
The ALO director-general praised the legislation enacted by Qatar to reform the work environment, which was praised by various Arab, regional, and international forums. He pointed out that Qatar exceeded all expectations with the distinguished and impressive organisation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as it granted workers all required protection measures, which reflects its excellent care and concern for workers' health and occupational safety.
Al-Mutairi appreciated the efforts of Qatar and its active role in the International Labour Organization as the co-ordinator of the Arab group in the organisation, pointing to Qatar's continuous support for various Arab countries' issues in this context. He referred to Qatar's humanitarian role and its development institutions in providing support and aid to the neediest countries in the world by providing support, training, and rehabilitation for people in need, to provide them with the necessary skills and tools to enable them to have suitable job opportunities that contribute to improving their living conditions, in addition to working developing their countries and strengthening their markets.
The ALO director-general stressed the importance of exchanging experiences and benefiting from all successful experiences in facing the challenges of the labour market, indicating that it is impossible to hide the progress or decline of any country in this field. Concluding his remarks to QNA, the ALO Director-General Fayez Ali al-Mutairi said that Qatar's presidency of the 111th session of the ILC is not surprising since Qatar has achieved many accomplishments, extending congratulations to the leadership, government, and people of Qatar for chairing this session.
