The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) is set to enchant audiences with an exquisite evening of classical music, featuring the timeless works of Franz Joseph Haydn, Johannes Brahms, and Bela Bartok.
Led by acclaimed German conductor Elias Grandy, this captivating concert will take place on Friday (June 2), at 7.30pm at The Hamilton International School Theatre, Mesaimeer.
The concert will commence with Haydn's illustrious Surprise Symphony, also known as Symphony No. 94 in G Major, named for the “surprise” – an astoundingly loud chord that punctuates the gentle flow of the second movement.
The performance will continue with Brahms’ Variations on a Theme of Haydn, a composition based on the theme and variations of the Saint Anthony Chorale by Haydn. The night will end with Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, a colourful showpiece that is arguably the most popular of Bartok’s orchestral works.
Grandy, is renowned for his passionate interpretations of operatic and orchestral repertoire and has been the music director of Heidelberg's Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra from 2015 to 2023. Under his leadership, both institutions experienced a significant rise in artistic quality, establishing Heidelberg as a vital musical hub.
Grandy's international profile continues to soar as he conducts first-class orchestras across Europe, America, and Asia, captivating audiences with his precision and musical depth.
