On International Nursing Day, observed on May 12 every year, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) celebrated its nurses under the theme ‘Our Nurses. Our Future’, through a celebration at the Al Sadd Health Centre.
The celebration was attended by Dr Samya Ahmad al-Abdulla, executive director of operations at PHCC, Ibtisam Abdullah Jassim, acting director of nursing at PHCC, and regional directors, Dr Fathia al-Meer, central regional director, Dr Nada al-Emadi, northern regional director, and Dr Hiyam al-Sada, western regional director.
Dr al-Abdullah expressed her gratitude to nurses and their colleagues in 31 health centres, as well as school health nurses for their dedication, diligence, and excellence in performing the tasks assigned to them. She also highlighted the pivotal role nurses have played in the past three years, especially during Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to their prominent role and tangible efforts during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Dr al-Abdullah stressed that the nursing profession was, and continues to be, the line of defence and the protective shield for society to be on the front lines doing their best to provide care for patients.
Ibtisam Abdullah commended the efforts of PHCC nurses and highlighted the future plans to be implemented during the next five years, to shape a highly skilled and distinguished nursing cadre and highly skilled nursing leaders that elevates the nursing profession.
At the end of the ceremony, 47 staff were honoured, 38 of whom were distinguished nurses, six family physicians, and three from other departments for their outstanding efforts and positive contributions in moulding nurses at PHCC.
