Middle East North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), during its 36th general meeting, which is was held in Manama, elected Qatar as co-chair of the Technical Assistance and Applications Team for a two-year term. Secretary of the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Issa Mohamed al-Hardan is Qatar's representative in the position.
The Technical Assistance and Applications Working Group is concerned with studying the methods, trends and indicators of money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing in the Middle East and North Africa region, and coordinating the provision of training and capacity building for member states, in co-operation with international organisations and other donors.
The election of Qatar is another testament to the confidence of the international community in Qatar's national authorities concerned with combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
