The embassy of the Republic of Korea in Doha has expressed its deepest gratitude to Qatar for its full and expeditious assistance to search and rescue a Korean national who had fallen from a merchant vessel in Qatari waters.
Ambassador Lee Joon-ho conveyed his sincerest gratitude to the authorities concerned for taking swift and intensive action to search and rescue the Korean national upon receiving a distress call from the commercial vessel’s crew on May 23.
"In a joint operation, Air and Maritime Search and Rescue teams of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), the Amiri Naval Forces, the Amiri Air Force, along with the commercial vessel, had worked feverishly in a race against time throughout the night to find the missing Korean alive and successfully rescued him early morning on May 24, which was in 25 hours after he had fallen in the water. He was promptly transported to Hamad Hospital for necessary medical aid," the embassy said in a statement.
Ambassador Lee visited the Korean national at Hamad Hospital on Thursday and wished him a speedy and full recovery, assuring that the embassy will provide all necessary support until he goes back to Korea safely. Lee also delivered his heartfelt appreciation for the medical team's effort and assistance. "The prompt and full support of the Government of Qatar resulting in the successful rescue of the Korean national showed the depth of the longstanding friendly relations that Korea and Qatar have forged over the past 50 years, and our strong friendship will deepen and strengthen to a greater level in the years ahead," the statement added.
