Football legend Lothar Matthaus said he was thrilled by the organisation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in Qatar and hailed the generous hospitality and good reception he found in that country.
During a roundtable meeting in Munich at the invitation of the Bundesliga and beIN Sports group, the exclusive broadcaster of the tournament games in the Middle East and North Africa, Matthaus told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that he liked Qatar very much and spent nearly 6 weeks during the world cup, adding that movement between stadiums was very easy and smooth which helped him watch many matches in more than one stadium, as stadiums are very close to each other.
He pointed out that the tournament was very impressive, and that he was entirely thrilled by the beautiful stadiums and with the distinguished performance.
The stadiums were highly sophisticated with a seamless traffic flow in the streets, while reception and hospitality were very generous and all football fans around the world felt that they were very welcomed in Qatar, he added.
Commenting on his team's reaction to the tournament in Qatar, Matthaus said the performance was good and he was surprised by the knockout of his team from the group stages, because Germany controlled all matches in front of Japan, Spain and Costa Rica and the performance was good, but the result was unfortunate, he said.
He indicated that the world cup in Qatar was excellent and an incredible experience for him despite the unfortunate result for Germany which strives to be at the top the ranks of the best five teams in the world.
Regarding Thomas Muller, who is seriously considering leaving Bayern Munich this summer due to his current situation, Matthaus said he did not believe or imagine that Muller would leave, because this is Bayern Munich, and he cannot watch Muller while he plays in another team especially that fans liked him very much.
Thomas Muller is an excellent player and plays in a teamwork through following up on the plan approved by the coach and will remain with Bayern Munich until his career ends as footballer, because his contract terminates in 2024, Matthaus said.
