Qatar University’s (QU) College of Education, represented by the National Centre for Educational Development (NCED), as well as College of Engineering and Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, in collaboration with ExxonMobil Qatar, has announced the winning projects of the ‘Innovators in Education’ project in a closing ceremony.
The project aims to provide opportunities for students in universities and colleges, as well as educators in schools, colleges and universities, to participate in designing educational resources that enhance student learning, contribute to the development of the innovation system, and meet current and future needs in three key areas: educational tools, educational games, and multimedia and learning software.
The closing ceremony was attended by the HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr al-Nuaimi, QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham and a number of other dignitaries, deans, directors, university professors, educators, participants, and male and female students.
In a statement on this occasion, Dr Hessa bint Hamad al-Thani, dean of the College of Education said, “The ‘Innovators in Education’ project supports the creative and productive capacities of students and enhances their ability to innovate.”
Dr Khalid Kamal Naji, dean of the College of Engineering, said: “This project is a valuable initiative that has worked on discovering educational talents for their development and investment through the Technology Innovation and Engineering Education (TIEE) unit. This is done by leveraging the latest developments and advancements in technology applications in educational curricula, teaching methods, engineering education, assistive technology, educational assessment, and e-learning environments.”
Dr Sneed Salem al-Daiya al-Marri, director, NCED, said the project is a strong and supportive source for practical creative ideas, and serves as a stimulus for innovation for all educators, whether in the university or school community, as well as for university students from all categories.
Dr Mahmoud Abdulwahed, director, Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development and secretary of the Board of Directors of QU Holding Company, described the project as a creative platform for innovation and development of products and educational technology that can be transformed into nuclei for startup companies in educational technology.
Dr Mohammed Hashem al-Hashemi, director of Government and Public Affairs, ExxonMobil Qatar, said: “Supporting this important initiative is part of our commitment to inspiring students at all stages of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become leaders in their fields.
