Qatar Football Association (QFA) President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani participated in the inauguration of Pele International Stadium in Bethlehem Governorate, Palestine, at the invitation of Palestinian Minister of Sports and Palestinian Football Association President Lieutenant-General Jibril Rajoub.
The opening ceremony of Pele International Stadium, coinciding with the anniversary of Nakba Day, was attended by Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association as well as the West Asian Federation, and Hani Abu Raida, Vice-President of the Arab Football Association and member of the FIFA Council.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Palestine Mohamed Shtayyeh met with the HE Sheikh Hamad. During the meeting, they discussed issues of common interest and ways to enhance them between the two sides in various football-related matters in light of the distinguished relations between Qatar and Palestine.
On behalf of Mahmoud Abbas, the President of Palestine, Shtayyeh bestowed the Grand Star of the Order of Jerusalem on the QFA President in appreciation of his sporting career "full of giving and various achievements, as well as his efforts to strengthen Qatari-Palestinian fraternal relations".
Also, HE Sheikh Hamad visited the Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem.
