75th anniversary of the Nakba (the catastrophe) gains an important victory for the Palestinian cause, as well as for the Arab efforts to support it with the international community, especially after the United Nations General Assembly approved an event to commemorate this anniversary, and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will deliver an anticipated speech on this occasion on Monday.
This positive shift in the path of the Palestinian cause marks a milestone in the framework of enhancing international awareness of the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of the attempts to falsify the history by the Israeli occupation since 1948, the subsequent displacement of the Palestinians and the seizure of their lands, in addition to the continuous massacres against them, which have not stopped for 75 years.
In this regard, Assistant Arab League Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories Affairs Ambassador Said Abu Ali said in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the commemoration of the Nakba Anniversary becomes more importance this year in light of the United Nations approval to hold an event to commemorate it this month, stressing that this approval is an important affirmation and recognition of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and a victory for the true and original narrative of it in the face of the false occupation narrative that has long been promoted since the occupation of the Palestinian territories.
The Assistant Arab League Secretary-General also stressed the importance of the speech that Palestinian President will deliver on this occasion from the United Nations platform, pointing out that this speech will be in full view of the whole world, during which he will present the true Palestinian narrative to confirm what all myths and miserable attempts failed to achieve.
He added that the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Nakba at the United Nations headquarters also came within the framework of the efforts of the Arab League member states, which supported it, emphasizing the importance and necessity of concerted international efforts to put an end to the historical injustice to which the Palestinian people are subjected, which still exists, and has even escalated seriously under the current Israeli right-wing government.
In this regard, Ambassador Said Abu Ali called for the necessity of the international community assuming a great responsibility in confronting the extreme orientation of the Israeli right-wing government, which does not hesitate to ignite the situation, inflame feelings and push matters to the brink of an abyss in the occupied territories, as this government rejects the two-state solution and works to undermine it every day through its settlement projects and storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, seeking to divide it temporally and spatially.
He pointed out that despite the fact that 75 years passed since the Nakba, the statute of limitations, despite the fact that 75 years passed since the Nakba, will not negate the facts of history or a right of the Palestinian people, adding that the Nakba is still ongoing through occupation, settlement building, land confiscation, house demolitions, sacrilege, and the destruction of all aspects of life of the Palestinian people.
For his part, Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee member and the head of the Refugee Affairs Department Dr. Ahmed Abu Houli told QNA that the United Nations General Assembly's approval to commemorate the Nakba for the first time and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's speech on this occasion on May 15 represent an important step for the victory of the legitimate Palestinian rights in the face of the occupation's attempts to falsify historical facts and confiscate the lands and capabilities of the Palestinian people throughout history.
He added that holding this event and the Palestinian President delivering his speech on this occasion means UN and international recognition of the Palestinian tragedy over the past 75 years, which sheds light on the crime of displacement that the Palestinian people were subjected to, as they were displaced from their land in 1948 by the power of Zionist colonialism and the massacres committed against the Palestinians, while this Nakba is still going on and the Palestinian people are living through its chapters until now and perhaps for generations to come.
He called for building on this international position by offering the international community a political solution in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, and emphasizing the resolutions issued by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security and Human Rights Council, especially Resolution No. 194 that affirms the right of return and compensation, adding that it is not permissible that half of the Palestinian people remain dispersed, and other nationalities are allowed to come to Palestine, while the return of the Palestinians is rejected even if to visit their families, villages and cities.
In this regard, he underlined the need to share the Palestinian narrative with its documents and evidence, and the importance of a state of solidarity and advocacy to strengthen the Palestinian narrative and expose the Israeli narrative, noting the Arab support for the UN resolution on the commemoration of the Nakba.
The Palestinian official also stressed the importance of Arab support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in light of the large financial deficit it is going through, which necessitates the countries of the world, especially the Arab countries, to restore their support to the agency so that it can improve the level of services provided to all refugees. In this regard, he appreciated the support provided by the State of Qatar to the UNRWA, in addition to its continuous follow-up with the State of Palestine on diplomatic steps at the international level.
He said that Qatar offers the Palestinian people everything it can on the political and material levels, in order to reach a just and comprehensive political solution for the Palestinian cause, noting the State of Qatar's intervention to reduce the escalation in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and its important endeavors during the coming period to find a state of stability that leads to a comprehensive and just peace in the region and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
