The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has opened the doors for people to submit appeals and grievances regarding voter registration for the seventh Central Municipal Council (CMC) elections, which will be held in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 17 of 1998.
This comes with the announcement of the preliminary voters' lists.
A statement published by the MoI on Twitter explained the procedures for raising grievances along with details such as where and when.
These are as follows:
1. Place and time: the period for submitting appeals and grievances at the constituency's headquarters started on May 7 and continues until May 11, from 4pm-7pm.
2. Appeals and grievances procedures: a citizen has the right to complain if his/her registration application is rejected.
A voter also has the right to challenge the registration of another voter in his/her constituency if s/he believes that person has not complied with the requirements.
An appeal or grievance request shall be made in writing on the form designated for that purpose, provided that it includes the basis for the request and the section on which the request is based.
The appeal or grievance request shall be delivered to the head of the voter registration committee against a receipt.
3. The Appeals and Grievances Examination Committee shall decide on appeals and grievances within seven days from the date of submission.
4. The final voter lists will be announced, and the door for filing nominations will open on May 21.
The seventh CMC elections will be held on June 22.
The Supervisory Committee for the CMC elections, in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, has chosen 29 public schools as the electoral headquarters for constituencies across the country.
The process of submitting appeals and grievances starts following the announcement of the preliminary voter lists.
