Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation inaugurated yesterday the "Texture of pins" exhibition, showcasing the artwork of the Kuwaiti artist Maisam Qassem, at building 47, Hall 2.
The exhibition, which will continue until May 12, showcases over 30 paintings by Qassem, who excelled in the portraits of personalities from various fields, whether Kuwaiti, Qatari or Arab.
Katara general manager Prof Khalid Ibrahim al-Sulaiti underlined that the exhibition highlights Qassem's experiences, transformed into a medium for the audience.
He added that Katara strives to extend the bridges of communication between artists from around the world, especially in GCC states, to enrich the cultural and artistic scene.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), artist Qassem said that the name of the exhibition was inspired by paintings where she utilised pieces of wood and colourful threads, including a few pins.
It should be noted that her artwork has been well-received by members of the public, whether in Kuwait, or in the region.
Qassem’s passion prompted her to form a team of innovators who practice their artistic hobbies using pins and colourful threads to create images and paintings with premium esthetic dimensions.
The artists succeeded in making the world’s largest artwork made of wood, pins and threads, measuring 218sq m.
Roughly 14,000 pins and 30,000m of thread were used.
