Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah won the Sonora Rally in the northern Mexico on Friday, as the Qatari ace driver regained the lead in the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC). Partnering his French co-driver Mathieu Baumel, it was al-Attiyah’s second win of the year for Toyota Gazoo Racing after the Dakar Rally. In the fifth and final stage yesterday at the Sonora Rally, al-Attiyah finished second behind winner Yazeed al-Rajhi but it was enough for him to jump into the championship lead with 136 points. Saudi’s al-Rajhi is second with 106 points, while previous leader Sebastien Loeb dropped to third with 101 points after the Frenchman was forced to retire from Stage 3 in Mexico.
