The Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent representatives - in its emergency session to discuss developments in Sudan Sunday - called for an immediate cessation of all armed clashes in order to stop bloodshed and preserve the security and safety of civilians and the capabilities of the Sudanese people as well as the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. It affirmed the importance of a quick return to the peaceful path to resolve the Sudanese crisis and establish a new phase that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and contributes to strengthening security and political and economic stability in the country.

Held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, with the participation of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the Arab League represented by HE Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the Arab League Fahd Rashid Al Muraikhi, the meeting was convened at the invitation of Egypt and Saudi Arabia to discuss developments in Sudan.

In its statement, the Council expressed deep regret for the casualties that had occurred during the recent clashes in the country, and expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Sudanese people.

The Council warned of the danger of the violent escalation taking place in Sudan and the accompanying dangerous repercussions whose scope is difficult to determine internally and regionally, which necessitates that all parties uphold the interests of Sudan by exercising the utmost levels of restraint and working together to calm the situation in order to avoid its aggravation and prevent its deterioration. It stressed the readiness of the Arab League to make all efforts to assist Sudan in ending this crisis in a sustainable manner, and in a manner consistent with the interest of the brotherly Sudanese people.
