The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has concluded its first Ramadan football tournament, crowning the winners at Aspire Zone Foundation in the presence of HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, alongside a number of ministry officials and employees and a large gathering of fans.
The Public Relations Department team emerged the champions after winning the final 4-2, with the Financial Affairs Department finishing second.
The Wildlife Protection Department team came in third after defeating the Chemical Prevention Department team 2-1.
Accordingly, HE Sheikh Dr Faleh honoured the top three teams and the distinguished players and referees of the final and third-place play-off.
Abdul-Hadi Nasser al-Marri, assistant undersecretary for environmental affairs, said that the Ramadan tournament represents an opportunity for participants from the MoECC to promote the values and culture of sport.
He noted that it is a symbolic and social occasion that contributes to strengthening the bond between the ministry's employees, especially with the participation of their families and children.
Al-Marri stated that the tournament also contributes to strengthening the link between sport and environmental work, pointing out in this regard that a clean and healthy environment produces high physical fitness and good general health for all.
The official praised the excellent level of organisation of the tournament and the outstanding level of participation, thanking the Public Relations Department for its efforts in holding the event.
Six teams from the MoECC participated in the tournament.
Farhoud al-Hajri, director of the Public Relations Department, expressed happiness at the successful organisation of the Ramadan tournament, noting that the football championship is an extension of the country's vision to have sport as one of its foundations for human development.
He stressed that the Public Relations Department made a great effort in holding the event and received great co-operation from all departments and agencies of the ministry.
Faisal Abdullah al-Dosari, director of the MoECC’s Administrative and Financial Affairs Department, also lauded the first Ramadan football tournament, noting that the competition provided a wonderful atmosphere during the holy month.
