In co-operation with Center of Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan), the Excellence Training Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) launched on Thursday the Hikma (Wisdom) program, which is concerned with training the elderly and the youth at the same time, in order to preserve the social cohesion of the State of Qatar.
The program aims to invest in the opportunities and challenges of the new millennium by benefiting from the experiences of the elderly, and instilling concepts that concern the importance of the role of the elderly in the youth community, in addition to highlighting the role of the elderly in the institutional society.
In his speech during the program launch ceremony, HE CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work affirmed that the importance of working to consolidate the principles of investment in the experiences of the elderly in the Qatari society, and benefit from their experiences and capabilities in creating a state of balance between generations.
This program is designed according to the highest standards and the latest training techniques, with the aim of obtaining distinguished outputs, while maintaining excellence, innovation and leadership, and ensuring the achievement of the program's primary goal, which lies in achieving communication between generations, he added.
For his part, President of DI Dr Abdelwahab El Affendi explained that Arab and Islamic societies still carry many values and concepts concerned with reverence for the elderly, appreciating their experience and respecting them, warning of the need not to underestimate the attacks of modern civilization on our societies, especially in light of exposure to different cultures that perpetuate individualism and materialism.
He emphasised the importance of focusing on the values advocated by Islam, such as respect for the elderly and kinship ties, as well as building bridges of communication between generations, in order to build a better future, commending the efforts of the Ehsan Center and its programs aimed at supporting the community.
