The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed 75% works of the Design and Build Project for TSE (treated sewage effluent) Seasonal Storage Lagoons – Phase 1.
An official statement noted that Ashghal is continuing with the construction works.

7mn man-hours with no injuries

As a result of Ashghal's commitment to applying the highest occupational safety and health measures to prevent accidents and worksite injuries, the authority has succeeded in achieving 7mn man-hours without any lost time injury (LTI) during the implementation of the project. The Drainage Networks Projects Department has honoured the project’s contractor, Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company, in this connection.
The deep excavation works of the project are being implemented at a depth of up to 10m below the ground surface, which requires elevating the safety procedures at the worksite to ensure workers’ safety.

Abdulrahman Mohamed al-Sulaiti, head of the Treatment Plants Projects and Treated Water Networks Section in the Drainage Networks Projects Department, said the project maximises the utilisation of renewable water resources and the optimal use of treated wastewater in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 objectives in the field of environmental sustainability.
“It would balance the deficit and surplus of treated wastewater by storing the surplus during the winter months, to be used in the summer when the demand for treated water is high. Treated water is used for irrigation purposes of green spaces and aesthetic plants in public parks and roads, in addition to supplying feed farms with irrigation water. Treated water can be used in cooling systems and at worksites to wash sand used in projects and to control dust,” he explained.
Waled Murad al-Ghoul from the Drainage Networks Projects Department, said the project consists of five reservoirs with a total storage capacity of 22.5mn cubic metres. These are implemented using recycled excavated material. He explained that the treated water would be supplied to the reservoirs from the Doha South Sewage Treatment Plant through the rising main (D-Line).
“The project includes the construction of an evaporation pond with a capacity of 8.7mn cubic metres in addition to the pipework, hydraulic components, roads, operation and maintenance building facilities, electric substations and others,” he said.
Ashghal has completed 75% works of the project so far, during which two reservoirs have been completed to collect treated sewage effluent. All remaining works of the project are scheduled to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.
