A function was held to celebrate the valediction of the Ramadan Tournament 2023 by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
The function, according to an official press statement, was attended by Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmad al-Muhannadi and along with senior officials.
Al-Muhannadi honoured the winners in the six games of football, basketball, padel, table tennis, billiard, and video games (Sony PlayStation).
The 10th edition of the tournament saw the participation of more than 660 players, including employees from Ashghal and from local and international companies.
It took place at the Qatar Sports Club in co-operation with the federations of football, basketball, table tennis, billiard, and snooker.
Roads Operation and Maintenance Department (1) won a title in the basketball competition – which was held with 216 participants representing 18 teams – after winning against Roads Operation and Maintenance Department (4) in the final match.
Qatar Basketball Federation president Mohamed Saad al-Meghaiseeb honoured the winners.
Abdullah Khalaf and Omar al-Muftah won the padel competition that saw 20 participants.
The duo beat Ali Mustafawi and Salem al-Marri, while Sandeep was honoured for the table tennis competition, beating Khaled Mohamed.
Samir Waheed won the first place in the billiards, beating Roldon.
The tournament concluded with the honouring of the football champions.
The football category had 345 players representing 23 teams.
Al Nakheel team claimed the title, beating Al Ghanim International 16.
The Roads Operation and Maintenance Department team won “The Ideal Team” prize, where Hassan al-Emadi became the top scorer.
Public Relations and Communications Department manager Abdulla Saad al-Saad said that the tournament was a great success.
“We have seen great levels in all games, in a family atmosphere reflecting positively on work performance and productivity,” he said.
“We made sure to organise more than one competition to allow everyone into this big gathering,” the official added. “There has been an improvement in each edition.”
Public Relations and Communications Department assistant manager Mohamed Talib Ballan said that the tournament had exceeded all expectations in terms of participation and performance.
“The tournament has become more capable of creating a good work environment through exercise and rapprochement of everyone,” he said.
Tournament manager Hamad Nasser al-Naemi said that the tournament achieved its goals as one family among employees of Ashghal departments and local and international collaborating companies.
“We are always keen to present the best edition,” he said.
“We will now start thinking about and planning the tournament for next year,” al-Naemi added. “There will be a meeting to discuss all matters and the possibility of adding other games in co-operation with sports federations.”
