Eighteen business councils and chambers of commerce in Qatar gathered recently at Raffles Doha to partake in a social Suhoor, in the presence of 14 ambassadors.
“We are pleased to gather during this holy month of Ramadan for a business community Suhoor,” said French Business Council executive Sandrine Lescaroux.
She said, “The size and success of this event is a testament to the thriving environment for business in Qatar.”
Addressing the 350 attendees on behalf of the organising chambers and councils, Dr Fariborz Samadian of the Swiss Business Council Qatar, said: “We will continue to organise joint events for the business community to be able to exchange.”
Samadian; Ilef Ajra, representative of AHK; and Caroline Adenberger from Advantage Austria, led the programme of events.
Ajra said, “Ramadan is a month of conviviality and sharing. The business council and chambers Suhoor is a wonderful opportunity to share great moments and connect with one another.”
Trade was a key topic among the ambassadors present during the social event. Italian ambassador Paolo Toschi said, “Trade between Italy and Qatar is good; it is on a growth trajectory.”
Similarly, American Chamber of Commerce Qatar executive director Brooke Holland said: “This year marks 51 years of US-Qatar diplomatic relations. As we reflect on events, such as this and the ‘5th Annual US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue’, it’s clear that there is an appetite to collaborate as foreign chambers.”
Guests spent the evening dining and networking to live music. Evre Senocak, secretary general of the Turkish Business Council, said: “This Suhoor represents some of the most active business organisations in Qatar. We look forward to future collaborative events of this nature.”
Mario Lozancic, president of the Croatian Business Council, said: “Meetings of this nature in social settings between the government and private sector allows for candid discussions around issues and experiences that companies have in Qatar.”
